Go back in time to the Prehistoric Era and discover Drumheller, the dinosaur capital of the world, and the surreal and arid scenery of the Badlands!
First, head east from Calgary. Beyond the vast meadows on the edge of the city, you will jump tens of millions years back in time to the astonishing Badlands. This arid and barren landscape is home to plenty of unusual and disconcerting geological formations.
You will explore the impressive Horseshoe Canyon, considered by many to be a mini Grand Canyon. At the Visitor Information Center, you will learn more about the history and geology of the region.
Then, head to Drumheller, the dinosaur capital of the world. There, you will browse the vast fossil collections at the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology.
On the way back, you will stop off at the suspension bridge in Rosedale, which dominates the Red Deer River. Marvel at the “Hoodoos”, the huge natural rock columns, before heading back to Calgary.
