Enjoy a guided excursion from Cuzco to discover Moray and the Maras salt mines in the Sacred Valley!
From Cuzco, you will first travel close to the town of Maras, enjoying a beautiful drive through the Andes. First of all, you'll explore the archaeological site of Moray, one of the most fascinating in the Sacred Valley. Moray is a series of terraces over 150 metres high, in the shape of an amphitheatre. Your guide will share with you the history and anecdotes of this enigmatic place, whose purpose is still uncertain.
Then, you'll take the road to the Maras salt mines, which boast spectacular scenery. This extraordinary site is made up of almost 3,000 natural salt ponds, fed by an underground spring that formed 110 million years ago at the same time as the Andes mountain range itself! The saltworks have been in use since Inca times and are still in operation today. Still accompanied by your guide, you will learn more about how salt is made and take part in ancient salt extraction techniques with the locals.
To finish your day's excursion, you will be escorted back to Cuzco.
