Cancellation with conditionsExplore Isabela Island in the Galapagos Archipelago and climb to the top of the island's oldest volcanoes!
Set off from your hotel on Isabela Island, head to the island's bus station and board an open-top people-carrier to El Cura, located in the centre of the island at the foot of Sierra Negra volcano. This volcano is believed to be one of the oldest in the archipelago. On the way, you'll pass the Flamingo Lagoon, so you can admire the Galapagos pink flamingos. Their plumage is the brightest of all flamingo species, so you won't have any trouble spotting them.
When you arrive in El Cura, you'll head off on a hike through a forest to reach the foot of the Sierra Negra volcano. This forest boasts unique vegetation including tree ferns and large exotic trees. Upon arriving at the foot of the volcano, you'll begin the ascent, which is 1,000 metres above sea level, making it the fifth-highest volcano in the archipelago. And once at the top you'll get a panoramic view of the Perry Isthmus, a 10-kilometre lava path that links the Sierra Negra and Alcedo volcanoes. You'll also get a magnificent view of Fernandina Island and the Pacific Ocean.
You'll then go on a second hike to Chico Volcano where you'll see cascades of solidified lava that flowed down the volcano during its last volcanic eruption in 2018.
A packed lunch will be provided when it's time to eat. You'll dig into a typical Ecuadorian dish.
When the tour ends you'll be taken back to your hotel.
