Starting from Puerto Ayora Port on Santa Cruz Island, you will board a boat to the Turtle Breeding Centre which is located a short walk from the town of Puerto Villamil on Isabela Island. This centre aims to protect the Galápagos Islands' turtles from the time they hatch until they are old enough to protect themselves. You will visit this space dedicated to the care and breeding of these giant tortoises, expert breeders will help you discover the importance of these reptiles in the ecosystem of the Galápagos archipelago. You will walk through the centre's large botanical garden and observe unique indigenous flora and fauna.
After your visit to the Breeding Centre, you will head to a mangrove swamp that lies along the coast of Isabela Island, very close to Puerto Villamil. It is a very important place on the island, contributing to the preservation of the coastline and the resistance of the erosive action of the waves. Your guide will select the best hiking trail through the mangrove wetlands to find rare bird species that can only be seen in the Galápagos archipelago. You will be taken back to Puerto Ayora Port at the end of your activity.
